
Joseph H. Neale, Ph.D. earned his BS and PhD from Georgetown University, where he wrote a doctoral dissertation in behavioral neurochemistry. His early career included appointments as an Assistant Research Biochemist at the University of Michigan’s Mental Health Research Institute and as a Research Fellow in the Laboratory of Developmental Neurobiology at NICHD, NIH, before returning to Georgetown as faculty. He served as the Paduano Distinguished Professor and Chair of the Department of Biology at Georgetown University. Dr. Neale’s research spans the neurochemical mechanisms of behavior, with over 50 publications that were central to characterizing N‑acetylaspartylglutamate (NAAG) as a neurotransmitter. He also contributes his expertise in PSMA ligand‑mediated approaches to pain treatment as a member of the PTX Scientific Advisory Committee, highlighting his commitment to important health matters.
